TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE USE OF THE M- PESA LEARNING PORTAL
1.1. These Terms and Conditions shall govern the use of the M-PESA Learning Portal. By using the M- PESA Learning Portal, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted these terms. If you do not wish to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, please do not register for the M-PESA Learning Portal.
1.2. These Terms and Conditions must be read in conjunction with the Terms and Conditions applicable to each Safaricom service, product, website, or application, including those published on Safaricom’s official website www.safaricom.co.ke, online platforms, or in local daily newspapers. In the event of any inconsistency, the Terms and Conditions of the specific Safaricom service, product, website, or application shall take precedence to the extent of the inconsistency.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR THE USE OF THE M- PESA LEARNING PORTAL
1. SCOPE
1.1. These Terms and Conditions shall govern the use of the M-PESA Learning Portal. By using the M- PESA Learning Portal, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted these terms. If you do not wish to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, please do not register for the M-PESA Learning Portal.
1.2. These Terms and Conditions must be read in conjunction with the Terms and Conditions applicable to each Safaricom service, product, website, or application, including those published on Safaricom’s official website www.safaricom.co.ke, online platforms, or in local daily newspapers. In the event of any inconsistency, the Terms and Conditions of the specific Safaricom service, product, website, or application shall take precedence to the extent of the inconsistency.
2. The M-PESA Learning Portal
2.1. The M-PESA Learning Portal allows users to access a comprehensive online resource hub providing educational content, training modules, and informational materials related to various M-PESA products, services, and operational guidelines. Its primary purpose is to empower Safaricom’s partners (e.g., agents, merchants, and internal staff) with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively utilize M-PESA solutions and enhance their business performance.
2.2. The M-PESA Learning Portal is primarily available to our M-PESA Agents, dealers and merchants who interact with M-PESA services.
2.3. Access may also be extended to other relevant organizations that may provide content for training our Merchants. These terms and conditions shall apply to such other organizations.
2.4. Safaricom reserves the right to offer or decline access to the M-PESA Learning Portal to any person for technical or operational reasons.
2.5. Safaricom reserves the right to offer or grant access to certain functionalities of the M-PESA Learning Portal to internal staff, M-PESA partners.
2.6. The M-PESA Learning Portal will be available for use from the date of publication of the Portal (“Commencement Date”).
3. HOW TO ACCESS THE M-PESA LEARNING PORTAL
3.1. To access the M-PESA Learning Portal , an eligible internal staff, M-PESA partner, M-PESA Agent and Merchant will use this domain mpesatraining.safaricom.co.ke and follow the following steps:
3.1.1 Create the Course Shell
i.Login as an Admin or Course Creator.
ii.Navigateto:
Site administration → Courses → Add a new course
iii .Fill in the course details:
- Course full name: e.g., “Introduction to MPESA security”
- Short name: e.g., SECUREMPESA101
- Course category: Choose or create a category (e.g., MPESA Security Courses)
- Course visibility: Make visible or hidden until it's ready
- Course format: Recommended: Topics format or Weekly format
- Start date / End date: Configure course duration
iv. Click Save and Display.
3.1.2 Configure Course Settings
i. Go to Course administration → Edit settings.
ii. Set up:
o Language
o Completion tracking
o Groups or grouping (for teams/cohorts)
o Enrolment methods (manual, self-enrolment, cohort sync, etc.)
3.1.3 Add Sections/Topics to Course
i.Click Turn editing on.
ii.Add topics or weeks to divide your course content.
iii.Rename each section (e.g., “Week 1: Introduction”, “Week 2: Threat Models”).
3.1.4 Upload Multimedia Content
For each section:
i.Click Add an activity or resource → Label / Page / File.
ii.Choose:
o Label: For short messages or embedded videos
o Page: For rich HTML content (videos, images, text)
o File: To upload PDFs, PPTs, or videos
iii.Drag and drop or upload:
o Images
o Video files
o Embedded YouTube/Vimeo
o SCORM packages
🧠 Tip: Use the H5P plugin to create interactive multimedia content (e.g., drag-and-drop, image hotspots).
3.1.5 Add Quizzes
i.Go to desired section → Add an activity → Quiz
ii.Configure:
o Quiz name
o Timing (open/close dates)
o Attempts allowed
o Grading method
o Question behavior (deferred, adaptive, shuffle)
iii.Click Save and display → Then click Edit quiz
iv.Click Add → + a new question, or choose from question bank
o Supported question types: Multiple Choice, True/False, Short Answer, Essay, etc.
o Set points, feedback, and answer options
🔐 Optionally use question pools for randomized assessments.
3.1.6 Add Assignments
i. Click Add an activity → Assignment
ii. Configure:
Assignment name
Description (instructions, rubric)
Availability (open/close)
Submission type: File uploads, text, or both
Maximum number of uploaded files
Feedback types: Inline, file, comments, rubric
Grading method: Simple, rubric, marking guide
📁 Submissions can be auto checked via plugins like Turnitin or plagiarism checkers.
3.1.7 Setup Course Completion Rules
i. Go to: Course administration → Completion tracking
ii Enable tracking per activity:
o Require quiz attempt
o Require assignment submission
o Require grade pass
Iii. Set overall course completion condition
3.1.8 Enroll Students & Teachers
i.Go to: Participants → Enrol users
ii.Select role: Student or Teacher
iii.Enrol manually or via:
o Self-enrolment
o Bulk upload (CSV)
o LDAP / Cohort sync
3.1.9 Test the Course (Preview as Student)
i.Click Switch role to → Student
ii.Walk through the course flow:
- Multimedia access
- Quiz flow
- Assignment submission
- Email notifications
3.1.10 Publish & Monitor Progress
i.Make the course visible to students
ii.Monitor:
- Activity reports
- Quiz results
- Assignment submissions
- Completion progress
📊 Use Reports → Completion tracking, Logs, and Gradebook for evaluation.
4. FEATURES AND FUNCTIONALITIES OF THE DIGITAL IDENTITY
4.1. The M-PESA Learning Portal shall contain different features and functionalities .Key features include: Access to a library of training content (e.g., video tutorials, interactive modules, downloadable guides, FAQs);Progress tracking for completed courses and modules; Quizzes or assessments to test understanding; Search functionality for easy content discovery; User profiles and potentially certification upon completion of specific training paths A section for announcements and updates related to M-PESA products.
4.2. We reserve the right to vary the features and functionalities of the M-PESA Learning at our sole discretion.
5. USER RESPONSIBILITIES
Users will be responsible for:
5.1. Adhering to the portal's Terms & Conditions and Data Privacy Policy.
5.2. 5.2 Maintaining the confidentiality and security of their login credentials.
5.3. 5.3 Using the content for personal learning and business improvement, without unauthorized distribution or commercial use.
5.4. Providing accurate and truthful information during registration and profile management.
5.5. Reporting any technical issues or unauthorized access.
DO NOT SHARE YOUR PASSWORD OR AUTHENTICATION CODE WITH ANY PERSON. SAFARICOM SHALL NOT BE LIABE FOR ANY LOSS OCCASIONED DUE TO YOUR DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PASSWORD OR AUTHENTICATION CODE
5.6. You must:
5.6.1 not use the M-PESA Learning Portal in any unlawful manner, for any unlawful purpose, or in any manner inconsistent with these Terms and Conditions, or act fraudulently or maliciously, for example, by hacking into or inserting malicious code, such as viruses, or harmful data, into the Digital Identity;
5.6.2 not infringe our intellectual property rights or those of any third party in relation to your use of the M-PESA Leaning Portal;
5.6.3 not transmit any material that is defamatory, offensive or otherwise objectionable in relation to your use of the Digital Identity;
5.6.4 not use the M-PESA Learning Portal in a way that could damage, disable, overburden, impair or compromise our systems or security or interfere with other users; and
5.6.5 not collect or harvest any information or data from the M-Pes Learning Portal or our systems or attempt to decipher any transmissions to or from the servers running any service.
6. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
6.1. All intellectual property rights including, to the extent applicable, copyright, trademarks, design rights, patents or other intellectual property rights whether registered or not, are owned by or licensed to Safaricom unless otherwise indicated.
6.2. Except for use of the M-PESA Leaning Portal in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, you are granted no rights to use or, without limitation, copy, modify, transmit, distribute, display, reproduce, publish, licence or in any way use any of the intellectual property contained within any of our Platform(s) without Safaricom’s prior written consent.
7. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
7.1. The M-PESA Learning Portal , including all associated information, content, materials, products (including software), and services provided by Safaricom, is made available on an "as is" and "as available" basis, unless explicitly stated otherwise in writing
7.2. Safaricom makes no guarantees, whether express or implied, regarding the operation of the M-PESA Learning Portal or its associated offerings. You acknowledge and agree that using the Pesa Learning Portal is at your sole risk
7.3. To the full extent permissible by law, Safaricom disclaims all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a specific purpose. Safaricom does not guarantee that the M-PESA Learning Portal , its content, products, services, or communications are free from viruses or other harmful components.
7.4. Safaricom shall not be liable, to the maximum extent permitted by law, for any damages arising from the use of the M-PESA Learning Portal , including direct, indirect, incidental, punitive, or consequential damages, unless explicitly stated otherwise in writing.
8. PERSONAL INFORMATION
8.1. We are committed to respecting and protecting the privacy of the information we collect from you. Our privacy statement, as updated from time to time, explains how we treat your personal information, who we share your information with, and measures taken protect your privacy when you use the M-PESA Learning Portal . This can be found on Safaricom’s Data Privacy Statement published at https://www.safaricom.co.ke/dataprivacystatement/. If unable to access the link or the website, please reach us on any of our customer care channels to receive a copy.
8.2. Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, Safaricom and the users shall comply with the applicable and prevailing data protection safeguards and legislation that protects personal information and personal data from unauthorised disclosure. We encourage you to read the privacy policy carefully before accepting these terms and conditions.
9. GENERAL TERMS
9.1. You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble, tamper with, or bypass any security associated with the M-PESA Learning Portal , whether in whole or in part.
9.2. We are giving you personally the right to use the M-PESA Learning Portal as set out above. You may not transfer the M-PESA Learning Portal account to someone else, whether for money, for anything else or for free. If you sell any device on which you had already signed in to M-PESA Learning Portal, you must sign out from your M-PESA Learning Portal account in that device.
9.3. Safaricom reserves the right at any time to amend or vary these Terms and Conditions or to deactivate the M-PESA Learning Portal at any time. In any of these events, notice will be given on Safaricom’s website safaricom.co.ke.
9.4. We may immediately suspend, terminate or limit your access to the account at any time if you are in breach of the Terms or there is an emergency or for operational or regulatory reasons or for whatever reason we deem fit.
10. GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION
These terms and conditions shall be governed in accordance with the laws of Kenya and its validity construction and effectiveness shall be governed and enforced pursuant to the substantive laws of Kenya.
